People travelled from as far as Galway, Waterford and Kerry to Mallow on Saturday last, 7th March to attend an Information Day, hosted by Dermot Casey Tree Care at their premises in Upper Quartertown, Mallow which was held to coincide with National Tree Week, 1st – 7th March.
Dermot Casey’s team of tree care specialists and training providers were on hand to answer questions and to advise on their FÀS and Lantra / NPTC registered chainsaw courses. Personnel from the Hire & Sales department were also in attendance to demonstrate machinery such as rotavators, scarifiers and hedge trimmers from the vast range of garden equipment available.
The Kids Corner with free posters, colouring and balloons proved to be a huge hit. All visitors on the day were entered into a draw, with prizes such as cordless drills from the Hire & Sales department and Nokia mobile phones.
Each visitor also took home with them a free sapling Irish Hazel tree.
Refreshments were served while people browsed the information leaflets, books and flyers which gave valuable information on topics such as tree planting and choosing the right tree for your garden.
The weather also held off on the day, giving our training instructor, Bill Blyth the opportunity to show off his chainsaw carving skills with a demonstration.
The morning was preceded by tree planting events and talks at the local primary schools on Friday.
The event was such a success that it is hoped to hold a further Information Day during the summer. Thanks to the National Tree Council for providing literature and to O2 who sponsored prizes for the draw.
